Phase 2 -- Getting the car race ready!
After a succesfull first season with the Accord and getting our team on track the focus has now shifted to getting the car the rest of the way race worthy! There were definitely some improvements made during the first season of getting our team familiar with the car, most notably being transmission cooling and power steering problems.
There were also some lessons learned along the way about the platform, some as simple as we need to rotate our pads between events to reduce taper, some a bit more involved such as tackling a power steering system that wasn't really meant to spend extended durations at high RPMs.
Ontop of the work to be done to the Accordion, we added another Accord to the stable, the DonorCord. The DonorCord was a canadian car that we purchased for $1000 as it has a similar engine with manual transmission. Thus, if the Automatic transmission ever dies on the Accordion, the Donor Cords engine would get removed and brought over to the Accordion. Plus, we'd fix up the DonorCord for use in SCCA Autocross events in the H street class, aka the barely modified class!
The DonorCord also represents an important poart of our teams personal growth, learning to wrench. The more our team knows about working on cars, the more likely we will be able to handle problems as they come up when we race!
Winter Plans for getting the Accordion Raceworthy:
- Add fire suppression (Mandatory)
- Finish rear firewall (Mandatory)
- Add rearward Accordion Music Playing speakers (Theme related)
- Add gauge warning light/buzzer (Arduino)
- Wire up transmission cooling fan (Good idea)
- Fix quality of life items (Dead pedal, etc)
- Fix any remaining problems (oil leaks, splitter wear pucks etc)
...more information to come as we tackle all of these tasks!
