So the first phase of the project started simple enough, get the car on the track. We have an entire team with pretty much zero track experience aside from myself, so we needed to get everybody at least a smattering of seat time. We don't need to be experts though, but at least posesses a modest awareness of ones surroundings and general procedures like entering, exiting, point-bys, etc etc.

I found myself in the unfortunate situation at my 29th and 30th track day / time attack at Thunderhill West where the tires I'd come to the track day with where pretty much cooked and I needed another set of tires. While there was a bit of tread left on them... they just weren't gripping as they had earlier in the day anymore.

In my quest for improved performance and handling on a budget, one thing I heard a lot of people mention early on was that some people would go with a "square" setup for wheels/tires on their C5 Corvette. A square setup is equal size wheels and tires on all 4 corners. On the C5 Corvette, this differs from the OEM staggered situation of a larger rear wheel/tire combo than front, generally 17" in the front, 18" in the rear.

So per my C5 Corvette Weight Loss Article, I am trying to drop weight on my C5 corvette, and a fair bit can go off the front to better balance out the car. One area of rather sizable weight up front is the splitter.
